Former NDP Premier Mike Harcourt endorses Mike Farnworth for leader

April 8, 2011

(Pender Island) — Former NDP Premier Mike Harcourt today released the following statement endorsing Mike Farnworth for leader:

"BC NDP members have an important decision to make regarding the leadership of the party. There are three major candidates running, all good people, anyone of whom would make a fine Premier.

However, I believe that Mike Farnworth would give the BC NDP the best chance of winning the next election.

Throughout this campaign, I’ve watched Mike demonstrate a leadership style that listens to all voices and brings people together. This approach will unite people across the province. That’s when New Democrats are at their best and can accomplish significant changes on behalf of the people of British Columbia.

Mike Farnworth will get us back to this approach to governing."

Mike Farnworth says he is honoured by Harcourt's endorsement, and will continue to work hard for the next nine days to win the support of the party.

"Obviously I am extremely pleased to have Mike's support," says Farnworth. "It means a lot, and I'm excited to work with all members towards victory next Sunday, and in the next election."

Harcourt will join Farnworth for a media availability to discuss his endorsement Monday April 11th at 10 am outside the Vancouver Convention Centre (East).
